Over 800 people attended The Shelter for Abused Women & Children’s 18th Annual Mending Broken Hearts with Hope Luncheon, Monday, Feb. 19, 2018, at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort, Naples, FL. The event included a two-day designer boutique that was open to the public.
Linda Meak served as Chair of this year’s luncheon with assistance from Co-Chairs Denise Wilburn and Donna Issenmann. Karen and Sam Smith served as Honorary Chairs. The keynote speaker was foreign policy reporter and women’s rights activist Gayle Tzemach Lemmon, author of “Ashley’s War: The Untold Story of a Team of Women Soldiers on the Special Ops Battlefield” and “The Dressmaker of Khair Khana.”
Mana Holtz, The Shelter’s first Trustee Chair, was honored with the Beau Venturi Peace Award. Given to honor individuals who have shaped the face and direction of The Shelter for Abused Women & Children, this was only the sixth time in The Shelter’s 28-year history that this award has been presented. Mana has been an amazing friend to The Shelter since 1999. She served as the very first Chair of The Shelter Trustees and lent her support to the Capital Campaign to build the Beau Venturi Home. In 2006, she chaired the Mending Broken Hearts with Hope Luncheon and served as Honorary Chair in 2015. Mana courageously shared her personal story during the 2004 Shelter from the Storm Luncheon and spoke at the 10-year anniversary of Shelter from the Storm. Mana has also given generously to help The Shelter build its endowment.
