Freedom Cottage Welcomes New Family

We had the honor of welcoming a new family into one of our Transitional Living cottages. This is a safe, beautiful space where survivors of domestic violence can rebuild their lives. Our two-year Transitional Living program provides fully furnished 3-bedroom, 2-bath cottages along with counseling, education, community services, and financial classes. Every detail is designed to support each family’s journey toward independence. Before every move-in, the amazing members of The Shelter Guild transform each cottage by selecting furniture, décor, and household essentials from The Shelter Options Shoppe. When families complete the program, everything in the cottage becomes theirs to take into their new beginning. After seven months in the emergency shelter, “Sally” and her two children moved into the Pink Cottage and their excitement was unforgettable. Sally and her daughter were squealing before they even reached the door, and Sally gasped, “Oh my gosh, look at the furniture!” as she stepped inside. Susie ran straight to her room, freezing in awe before joyfully picking up everything saying, “Look at this!” Sally was overjoyed to discover her son’s sensory toys, a fully stocked kitchen, and especially her own bathroom something she’d never had before. Both mom and daughter were overwhelmed with gratitude, thanking the volunteers for creating such a beautiful home just in time for Thanksgiving. Thank you to our The Shelter Guild Decorating Committee, volunteers, staff, and supporters who make these transformations possible.
