Women of Initiative funds human trafficking advocate

The Shelter is thankful for a recently $10,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Collier County’s Women of Initiative Grant Fund. Proceeds from the grant will be used to fund a human trafficking emergency shelter advocate at The Shelter.

The issue of human trafficking in Collier County recently came to light after a sex trafficking ring was uncovered operating in Southwest Florida. Language barriers, a fear of deportation and a distrust of authorities all conspiring to keep the victims from accessing help.
