In preparation for Domestic Violence Awareness Month, The Shelter and the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence are promoting the “Take a Stand” event, Oct. 1, in Washington, D.C.
Staff and supporters of The Shelter can participate by printing out your own pledge from the link below. Write in your own commitment statement, for example “I’m taking a stand… Because it’s not just a women’s issue,” and take a photo of you with the form. Will will post your pledge on our blog and social media.

A Dozen Ways to Help!
- Organize a moment of silence on October 1st at 11am EST to remember victims of domestic violence and/or contribute to the Remember My Name project (https://www.ncadv.org/programs/remember-my-name). Send us your event information (when, where, date, time, and link) and we will post it to NCADV’s national event listing page.
- Donate to NCADV via MobileCause by texting #takeastand to 41444.
- Take a selfie or group photo and share via social media why you will Take A Stand with NCADV. Use our printable placards (found here: Write-In or Ready-to-Go) and the hashtags: #tasncadv #STANDwithNCADV #takeastand. Email photos to mainoffice@ncadv.org so we can share them with our networks!
- Share what you have already done or are doing to address domestic violence on NCADV’’s Facebook (www.facebook.com/supportNCADV) or post to your own social media with the hashtags: #tasncadv #takeastand #STANDwithNCADV
- Collect cellphones and start a cellphone recycling drive for free. Get info on how at:https://www.ncadv.org/act/donate/donateaphone.
