Suncoast Credit Union awards Shelter grant for children’s programs

The Shelter is grateful to Suncoast Credit Union for a $10,000 grant to purchase supplies and materials for The Shelter’s onsite child care and after school care programs. These materials include educational booklets such as “My Safe Place,” “Kam’s Stay at The Shelter,” and “Sam’s Stay at The Shelter,” which are printed in English, Spanish and Creole. Other items include awareness raising novelties, educational books and toys, equipment and mats.

“The materials purchased through this grant are vital to educating and empowering children, while creating a learning environment that inspires them to develop peaceful and nonviolent relationships,” said Shelter CEO Linda Oberhaus. “Primary prevention programming is the first step toward ending domestic violence and human trafficking by changing the knowledge, attitudes, beliefs and behaviors that reduce the chances of a child becoming a victim or perpetrator of abuse.”
