Join us as we send our Spokes’men on their 1,256-mile journey!

Ride Send Off Party web2On Saturday, April 16, Shelter “Spokes’men” Colin Estrem, Gordon Kellam and Glen Schwesinger will embark on a 1,256-mile bicycle ride from Naples, FL to Washington, DC to raise awareness for The Shelter for Abused Women & Children’s Gentle’men Against Domestic Violence® (GADV) initiative.

The trio hope to bring national attention to GADV, which calls upon men to stand as equal partners with women to end domestic violence. A Special Send-Off for the riders will be held at 8 a.m. that morning at 7th Avenue Social, 849 7th Avenue South, Naples.

Along their journey, the local businessmen will collect pledges of support to promote GADV, as well as meet with representatives of NFL teams and political figures to discuss the initiative. Proceeds from Ride for The Shelter will further The Shelter’s mission to prevent, protect and prevail over domestic violence through advocacy, empowerment and social change.

Formed in 2008, GADV supports The Shelter’s eight-week “Raising Gentle’men” program, which teaches young men and boys that strength does not equal violence and true gentle’men exhibit the traits of respect, loyalty, honesty and accountability.

In 2012, Kellam and Schwesinger climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro to raise $50,000 for The Shelter. Joined by Estrem, Ride for The Shelter is a continuation of the journey to raise awareness and funding to prevent, protect and prevail over domestic violence.

“We’ve been working out and training in preparation for The Ride,” says Kellam. “We’re glad to have Colin join us. Having a third rider will help ensure our success.”
