Description:

 

 

Responsible for assisting with developing, managing, and presenting children’s outreach programs

Requirements &

Skills:

 

 

 

 

* Bachelor’s degree preferred

* Bilingual preferred

* Experience with advocacy work with adults and children preferred

* Experience with at-risk children preferred

* Experience in an educational setting preferred

* Knowledge of the dynamics and laws pertaining to domestic violence

* Knowledge of the developmental stages of children and interest in working with children exposed to domestic violence and/or sexual abuse

* Ability to pass all state and federal background checks and fingerprinting processes associated with the Jessica Lundsford Act

* Ability to evaluate and determine appropriate course of action for multiple problems

* Basic counseling skills

* Public speaking/presentation skills and experience

* Ability to establish a rapport with children who are in crisis

* Good verbal and written communication skills

* Good judgment and ability to work independently

* Familiar with local resources and referral sources

* Professional manner

* Successful completion of Core Competency Course and CPR/First Aid Course

Outreach Programs

* Develop, coordinate, schedule, and present programs in the community and in Collier County Public Schools on youth issues as related to domestic violence, such as Hands are for Helping, Not for Hitting and Teen Dating Violence.

* Provide training to local schools and other youth agencies

* Speak as an advocate for youth issues within the community

* Facilitate the Youth Advisory Council

 

Program Participants

* Provide crisis counseling  service management for children of SAWCC program participants as directed by Outreach Manager

* Help children with problem solving during times of crisis

* Coordinate and conduct children’s support groups in conjunction with adult support groups

* Provide education on safety, healthy relationships, and abuse prevention for children

* Assist adult program participants in obtaining legal, medical, and/or social services for their children

* Advocate for program participants with schools and other community agencies

Must be physically mobile and able to sit, stand, bend, stoop, and lift 20 pounds.
