Today we begin day 6 for 105 miles to Charleston, SC – hard to believe we are already 1/2 way to DC, and hard to believe we have to get on a bike again, let alone 6 more days… spirits are at slack tide right now, but we are focused and ready. Onward to Charleston, where we will meet with Mayor John Tecklenburg to discuss the GADV initiative!!

Today we had the chance to meet Butch Kennedy of the Real Men Against Domestic Violence initiative in Charleston, SC. Like GADV, the mission of RealMAD is to end all forms of violence to women and girls, men and boys, and to promote peace in our homes, schools and communities as well as provide proactive strategies that intervene on the cycle of abuse and violence. We also had the pleasure of meeting with Charleston Mayor John Tecklenburg.  These are two true gentle’men, and we look forward to collaborating efforts! Let’s ride together!

In the evening, we had such a great surprise at the Toast Restaurant in Charleston. The restaurant and Sharon comped our bill – we will donate the cost directly to the Shelter!! Thank you, Sharon, for sharing your story, and know that we are all in this together!!

At the end of the day, it was a grind, but a win. We are physically really exhausted, and 500 more miles is daunting. But we keep meeting great advocates along the way, who share our passion and support our cause!
