Audrey’s closes due to COVID-19, assists local shelters

Right now, some of us might struggle to find somewhere to turn for help. One Southwest Florida business knows places like shelters need a boost when supplies are low.

Audrey’s of Naples is colorful and high-end, but it wasn’t always.

“We lost a shop to Hurricane Ivan in 2004 which is why we ended up in Naples in the first place. So I’m no stranger to hard times,” said Quenby Tyler.

When the storm tore her shop to pieces and forced her to move, she learned a lesson about tragedy she’ll never forget.

“If we can all help lift each other up during this time, we can be so much stronger and empowered and better for it when we come out on the other side,” she said.

It’s why even though her doors are now closed, even though her sales are way down, she donates some of what she earns to the women and children’s shelter.

“It’s a cause that’s near and dear to my heart,” she said, and one that needs the help.

“The fact that we have both victims and their children quarantined or having to shelter in place in a violent home is just scary for a lot of families,” said Linda Obehaus who works at the Shelter for Abused Women and Children.

“We’re seeing donations go down. I always say every little bit helps. Even if it’s just a bottle of formula for a baby. Even if it’s just a package of diapers. Everyone can do something,” she said.

So Audrey’s is answering that call and the shelter is begging everyone else to do so too.

“Can you imagine if everyone did something to help another in our community did something to help someone at this time, can you imagine what a difference that would make? For our community and the shelter,” Obehaus said.

If you need help, there is help available 24 hours a day. Call 1-800-500-1119 and you’ll be connected to the closest domestic violence center near you.
