A New Beginning Cottage welcomes first family

Thank you to The Shelter Guild Cottage Committee Chairs Karen Colgain and Katy Tetta and their fabulous team for preparing our newest Transitional Living Cottage, A New Beginning, for its first family!

Our Transitional Living Advocate shared the family’s reaction when they saw their new home:

As soon as the participant got out of her car her eyes filled with tears. “There are no words, there are no words” she kept repeating.

When she saw the sign over the front door, “A New Beginning,” she smiled and said, “how perfect is that name!” As we opened the door, “oooh” and “ahhh” were all the three of us could say.

The participant cupped her mouth with a huge gasp when she saw the kitchen and all the amazing cooking appliances and tools. She has a catering business and hopes to go to culinary school to eventually own a food truck. Her big, wide smile said it all.

As she embraced her advocates, she was so thankful, not only for the home but for the peace. “When I first met you, I was broken — look at me now!”
