Life is blooming in The Shelter’s Peace Garden

As summer approaches, the Phyllis Clark Peace Garden is alive with color and life. Most noticeable are the caterpillars as they spend their days consuming leaves in preparation for their amazing metamorphosis. They are a vibrant reminder of The Shelter’s purpose and mission, transforming lives and empowering survivors to find their wings and take flight.

The garden was dedicated in 2002, when current Shelter facility opened. It is named for Phyllis Clark, a devoted Shelter donor and mother of local artist Muffy Clark Gill. Muffy is a Past President of the Shelter Board and her beautiful batik artwork adorns The Shelter walls as part of the Muffy Clark Gill Gallery.

Recently, members of the Longshore Lakes Woman’s Club began volunteering their time and talent to help maintain the Peace Garden. Their green thumbs have helped create a beautiful, serene outdoor space for our residents, Mother Nature, and feline pets of our Shelter residents.
