On Jan. 16, The Shelter’s Board of Directors, Board of Trustees and the Planned Giving Advisory Council honored Circle of Peace members, The Shelter’s planned giving society, during a reception held at a private club in Naples. Members were presented with a custom designed pin and personally thanked by CEO Linda Oberhaus for their generous commitment to The Shelter.
The Circle of Peace was created to honor those dedicated supporters who have chosen to leave a lasting mark on The Shelter’s future through planned giving. The Shelter’s Planned Giving Advisory Council, which is comprised of financial and legal professionals in the community, shared their top five ways to give back. Council member Rachel Kerlek shared the importance of involving children and grandchildren in opportunities for volunteerism and hands-on projects that support organizations and causes important to you.
Council Chair Jennifer Gebeau introduced her colleague Carlos Batlle of J.P. Morgan Private Bank, a former trust and estate attorney who strategizes on estate planning techniques. He shared several ways to donate beyond naming a charity in a will. In particular, Mr. Batlle highlighted how to give to a charity from an IRA, gifting appreciated assets, and several ways to work with an estate planning attorney to create special trusts to achieve charitable giving goals.
Council Member Keely Morton discussed the importance of sharing charitable giving goals and plans with heirs. Not only can it help to maintain family harmony, it can also inspire family members to follow your lead.
Special thanks to our sponsor for the evening, J.P. Morgan Private Bank.
