Amy

A survivor of abuse, Amy completed the Women of Business course and learned a great deal about what it would take to manage a small catering business. She used the micro loan she received through the program to purchase a business license and secure her business name. She also purchased supplies, tables, and themed party decorations to promote her business at local farmer’s markets.

Amy works in a school cafeteria, where she is getting additional training about inventory and other business aspects of food preparation. She plans to attend the culinary program at Lorenzo-Walker and looks forward to putting all of this knowledge into practice with her catering business.

Thanks to the Collex Wheels of Hope program, she qualified for a car donation to replace her broken down vehicle. She is also seeking information about Habitat for Humanity as an option when she leaves The Shelter’s Transitional Living program. With the help of her Shelter advocate, Amy is taking action to prepare for this goal by looking for a higher paying job to meet the income requirement. In addition, she is working on repairing and rebuilding her credit.

Amy and her daughter continue to receive counseling and attend various Shelter programs as they journey to lives free of domestic violence.
