The Shelter is cheering for one of our own to be a contestant on the TV show, The Voice. Here’s some information on Marie, in her own words:

My name is Marie.  I’m 30 years old and despite many challenges I’ve had in life I continue to push on. When I was 25 years old, I was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome which has made it more difficult to achieve my dreams, but not impossible.

I have been given a gift, my voice. Singing has always been my passion as far back as I can remember. I sang at home, in church, in school; and even sang the National Anthem for my hometown.  One thing was for certain, whether I was up or down in life, I never gave up singing.

I’ve auditioned for American Idol and was privileged to make it to the second round  of auditions on X Factor.  Although I did not make it to the televised rounds, I persevered.

Currently my dream is to go on “The Voice” and be a contestant.  I want to use my talents to empower myself and everyone who has experienced different forms of abuse.

I have been working with voice and recording professionals and I am ready for this next step in my journey.  Right now I am in need of some financial support so that I can get to Atlanta, GA for the auditions.   My aunt and grandmother will be joining me from NY for support.

Please help me in making my dreams a reality by donating to my gofundme account.
