COUNSELING SERVICES
After 17 years of abuse by his father and stepfather,
Jose and his mother found safe haven at The Shelter.
Due to a physical disability, compounded by years
of mental and physical abuse, Jose used a keyboard
device to communicate.
At The Shelter, Jose worked one-on-one with the
Raising Gentle’men Advocate and took part in a
variety of Shelter programs including Healing Arts.
He found love, support and acceptance. He worked
hard and eventually found the strength to share his
story in his own words and his own voice. It was an
amazing and emotional moment.
Several weeks ago, Jose came to The Shelter to talk
to our Stewardship Manager. He told her that he
now has a full-time job, and he wanted to make a
donation to give back and help other survivors find
their voices.
The impact of Jose’s small financial gift is eclipsed
by the scope of the gratitude in which it is given.
Thank you for giving him the chance to give back.
Your gifts make a world of difference, transforming
the cycle of abuse into a cycle of success!
