For the eighth consecutive year, The Shelter earned a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, America’s
largest independent evaluator of nonprofit organizations, an accomplishment achieved by only 4
percent of charities rated by Charity Navigator. We also retained our platinum status (the highest
possible rating) with Guidestar.
The Shelter’s financial support is purposefully diversified to ensure that we continue to thrive as long
as we are needed in our community.
Approximately 60% of The Shelter’s $5.98 million budget in 2018-19 came from individual donations,
fundraising events and private foundations, 17% was generated though our resale store, The Shelter
Options Shoppe, while the remaining 24% of funds were generated through state and federal grants.
What these graphics don’t depict are the contributions of over 450 dedicated volunteers who
provided 21,426 hours of service in 2018-19. If monetized, the total would exceed $529,000 based
on information from the Independent Sector.
While we are good stewards of your support, and take great pride in that, the work of which we are
most proud is the impact that you make possible - the transformation of survivors of domestic abuse
and human trafficking. Every life changed is a gift shared with our entire community.
“I’d like you to know that I’m doing very
well and have a full-time job. Now I can
breathe easier and stand on my own
feet. I can’t thank you enough for all
you have done for me.”
