Pat Nangle and Rocco Costa honored by The Shelter

Pat Nangle

Longtime Shelter Administrative Assistant Pat Nangle recently retired after more than 11 years with The Shelter. Prior to retirement, Pat was honored as August Employee of the Month. Here’s what her co-workers had to say about Pat.

“Every so often, one of our special volunteers or a fellow staff member will receive a beautiful handmade card made by Pat. Not only is Pat resourceful and creative when it comes to making others feel good, she does that every day on the job.

Pat is a beautiful writer and her command of the English language is superb. While she would love to be able to write unique one-off letters to each donor, she understands the sheer volume of her work does not allow such attention. BUT, what Pat does take time for, is helping her fellow staff members draft and review important documents. Her expertise and willingness to support her team has a lasting impression and impact on our donors.

During the month of August, Pat worked a full-time schedule while our colleague, Sam needed time away from work. Pat had a great attitude while putting  in the long hours. She helped with a project to clean up our database system. She helped with multiple fundraising proposals. She took additional time to learn about development processes and procedures to better prepare donor thank you letters.

Another gift Pat regularly brings to The Shelter is that she is amazing with the phone! She directs callers like an alert, yet gentle police officer at a busy street intersection. She has an uncanny ability to give the appropriate amount of attention to those who need a little extra help. Thank you Pat for making The Shelter a great place to work.”

Rocco Costa

Shelter Raising Gentle’men Advocate Rocco Costa was recently honored as The Shelter’s September Employee of the Month. Here’s what his colleagues had to say about Rocco.

“Rocco is a true Gentle’man and an ideal member of the Gentle’men Against Domestic Violence® (GADV) program at The Shelter. He became an active member of GADV when he joined our staff in 2018. From his first meeting, Rocco defined his value to the organization. Furthermore, Rocco has demonstrated his professionalism time and again in making public presentations on behalf of The Shelter. His other talent is relating so well to the young participants at The Shelter. It is a joy to watch him playing ball with the kids outside. But there is much more …

Rocco’s colleagues have nominated him many times before to receive the Employee of the Month nomination. He has humbly and, joyfully, served male victims of domestic violence at The Shelter in ES and Outreach, as well as students in Collier County Public Schools, and more recently he has worked with men in the local jail.

GADV meetings take place ten months of the year and the Gentle’men Advocate(s) are asked to present at each meeting. Rocco always knocks it out of the park!

Rocco also presented to the New Canaan Society last season and took it a step further by engaging them with GADV and the 2019 Tailgate event. Their involvement brought not only attendees and donations, but a group of men to volunteer and support the GADV mission. Once again, Rocco is contributing to the positive image and mission of The Shelter.

Thank you, Rocco. Your energy and ability to uplift those around you is a special gift.”
