Programs to Prevent

  • Community and Professional Training: The Shelter provides community training and continuing education for healthcare, mental health and dentistry professionals, featuring up-to-date courses that meet the standards of each discipline’s regulatory training.
  • Domestic Violence in the Workplace: a program targeting human resource representatives, or their counterparts at smaller companies, to help make them aware of the effects of domestic violence on business and employees. Download our Florida brochure or National brochure to learn more.
  • Domestic Violence Task Force: The Task Force is comprised of staff, attorneys and representatives from area hospitals, local law enforcement agencies, Collier County Public Schools, local community organizations, Florida Gulf Coast University, Legal Aid, David Lawrence Center, Department of Children & Families, among many other agencies to collaborate on a comprehensive plan to prevail over domestic violence in our community.
  • Expect Respect: a school-based program for middle and high school students promoting safe and healthy relationships while encouraging students to share what they learn with friends and family.
  • Gentle’men Against Domestic Violence®: A gathering of like-minded Gentle’men dedicated to supporting the  Raising Gentlemen program and breaking the cycle of abuse.
  • Hands Are for Helping Not for Hitting: an at-play program empowering kindergarten students and teachers to develop non-aggressive ways to deal with emotions
  • Healthy Relationships: teens and adults exploring the components of healthy relationships to ensure their own relationships remain violence-free
  • Raising Gentle’men: helping boys and young men to evolve beyond macho stereotypes to develop self-respect and respect for others and then share what they’ve learned.
  • Youth Advisory Council: a partner with The Shelter, the YAC is made up of teens from across Collier County working to change the knowledge, attitudes, beliefs and behaviors of teens, reducing teen dating violence in our community. FULL BROCHURE

  • Direct Assistance: meeting basic needs so you can focus on personal empowerment and breaking the cycle of abuse
  • Elder Abuse Response Program: meeting the distinctive needs of abuse victims 50 years and older.

  • Emergency Shelter: the state-of-the-art Beau Venturi Home, a 60-bed residential shelter located at a confidential site in Naples; serving all of Collier County, FL. In addition to providing a safe haven, The Shelter provides:

  • Haitian Initiative: Developed to meet the undeserved Haitian population of Collier County, this initiative builds bridges with the community by ensuring Creole-speaking advocates are available and providing a women’s Creole support group as well as other outreach programs in the Haitian community.
  • InVEST: advocates and law enforcement collaborating on cases of high-lethality (high risk for domestic violence homicide)
  • Medical Responder Program: The Shelter and collaborating agencies have identified the need to provide services for survivors in accessible settings such as emergency rooms.
  • Neighbors, Friends & Family: It is The Shelter’s belief that everyone in our community has a role to play in helping to prevent domestic violence. In doing so, The Shelter’s Neighbors, Friends & Families program seeks to arm individuals with information, referrals and details on how to best support and respond when a loved one is being abused.
  • Safe & Together: This program works to reduce the number of children removed from rural migrant farm worker and other survivors of domestic violence who are involved in child abuse investigations, allowing the child to remain with the non-abusing parent.

Programs to Prevail

  • Clinical Counseling Program: in English & Spanish, provided in Naples and Immokalee, four licensed therapists and five Master’s level clinicians provide free, empowerment-based, trauma-informed counseling services.
  • Community Collaborative Substance Abuse Program: Coping with emotional and psychological traumas often becomes burdensome for survivors of domestic violence. Our collaborative mission with both the Florida Coalition Against Domestic Violence (FCADV) and David Lawrence Center (DLC) provides a fulltime co-located Substance Abuse Specialist to offer treatment to survivors wanting to address their substance use.
  • Economic Empowerment: Asset building is a crucial part of domestic violence advocacy. Asset building can be linked to accessing various financial building blocks that help foster economic security. The Shelter has received a grant from the Allstate Foundation to address all aspects of economic independence.
  • ‘Gentle’men Against Domestic Violence®: A gathering of like-minded Gentle’men dedicated to supporting the  Raising Gentlemen program and breaking the cycle of abuse.
  • Healing Arts: heal from the past, live fully in the present and create a future free from abuse using art therapy, creative writing, drumming circles, yoga and other creative outlets; download the Healing Arts brochure here
  • The Shelter Options Shoppe: empower change in our community by donating to/making purchases at The Shelter Options Shoppe. Proceeds support our life-transforming services while program participants shop, free of charge, for clothing, accessories, furniture and household items: The Shelter Options Shoppe – 968 Second Ave. N, Naples, FL.   • Stay’N Connected: Offered through The Shelter’s Immokalee Outreach Office, this program works in partnership with ProLiteracy to expand access to Adult Literacy Services with an 8-week pilot program to assist native Spanish-speakers with limited English skills.
  • Transitional Housing Program: move towards self-sufficiency by developing real-world skills while under The Shelter’s supportive wing in one of seven THP cottages (must meet certain criteria to participate)
