Ava’s new shoes

Shelter mom Anna struggles to get three year old Ava to wear sneakers. To Ava, sneakers are too confined. She likes sandals, which allow space and air and freedom. But The Shelter’s day care requires little ones to wear sneakers for safety and support.

That’s why Ava LOVES her new Laces of Love shoes that she received at The Shelter! They are a perfect fit, not only in size but in purpose, providing support as well as openings for air and freedom.

Many times, survivors come to us stifled from the confines of home, finances, life choices, and violent relationships. They are beaten down mentally, emotionally, and often, physically. They are in desperate need of space, air and freedom.

An old saying advises us to “walk a mile in someone’s shoes.” It refers to experiencing the world from another person’s perspective and what it feels like to be that person.

This is more easily said than done. For example, it is easy to question why someone would stay in an abusive relationship if you have never experienced domestic violence. While it is our sincere hope that you never experience abuse, it is our mission to raise awareness in each of you to “walk a mile in her shoes,” because violence in the home doesn’t stop at the front door, it impacts all of us.

With your help, The Shelter offers survivors safety and support. Yet like Ava’s new shoes, we also provide openings for space, air and freedom. Come walk a mile with us! CLICK HERE  to learn how you can help!
