Art Therapy

Art Therapy can benefit people of all ages. Research shows that art therapy can improve communication, confidence, increase self-esteem, self-awareness, and/or reduce feelings of isolation. Through the creative process of drawing, sketching, painting the participants are able to relax, release feelings and emotions that are often too painful to be expressed or put into words. Simply coloring has been shown to relax and relieve apprehension. The relaxation that art therapy provides lowers the activity of the amygdala, a basic part of our brain involved in controlling emotion that is affected by stress.
