Deborah

For 10 years, Deborah’s abuser controlled every aspect of her life. She suffered physical, emotional, and financial abuse. She was not allowed to work or talk to her family and friends. She had to account for every penny she spent. Her only pair eyeglasses were taped together to keep from falling apart.

When he started abusing her in front of their three children, Deborah made a courageous decision – while her abuser was at work, she brought her family safely to The Shelter.

Shelter life is challenging, but Deborah and her children eagerly embraced the programs and services offered them. It has a poignant moment when Deborah received a brand-new pair of glasses. Through tears, she shared that she had accomplished more in one week than she did in 10 years with her abuser.
