Employees will be eligible to participate in this plan the first of the month following 90 days. The Shelter for Abused Women & Children contributes an additional matching amount of $1 per $1 contributed by the team member on the first 3 percent of the annual salary; and $.50 per $1 contributed by the team member on the next 2 percent of the annual salary, after one year of service. 


The health insurance plan at The Shelter offers team members and their dependents access to medical, dental, and vision insurance benefits. Regular full-time and part-time team members are eligible for coverage on the first of the month following their 90-day introductory period.

Premiums for the full-time team member’s medical insurance benefits are paid 100 percent by The Shelter. Premiums for part-time team members requesting medical coverage are paid 50 percent by The Shelter. Dental and vision insurance, as well as family coverage, may be purchased by the team member at your expense. 


The Shelter offers vacation time off with pay to eligible team members for rest, relaxation, and personal pursuits. Employees in the following employment categories are eligible to earn and use vacation:

  • Regular full-time team members
  • Regular part-time team members

The Shelter offers paid time off for team members when they, their immediate family members, or their partners are ill.

  • Regular full-time team members (80 hours per year)
  • Regular part-time team members (40 hours per year)

The Shelter gives paid time off to full-time team members on the following holidays:

  • New Year’s Day (January 1)
  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (third Monday in January)
  • President’s Day (third Monday in February)
  • Memorial Day (last Monday in May)
  • Independence Day (July 4)
  • Labor Day (first Monday in September)
  • Thanksgiving (fourth Thursday in November)
  • Friday after Thanksgiving (fourth Friday in November)
  • Christmas Eve (December 24)
  • Christmas Day (December 25)
